Lovable app security: what to check
Lovable builds web apps from a conversation. The front end is a React app built with Vite, and many Lovable apps use Supabase for their database, sign-in and file storage.
That combination is quick to build with, and it puts a lot of weight on a few settings. The browser talks to Supabase directly, so the rules on your tables decide who can read your data, and anything that ends up in the front-end code is readable by every visitor.
What to check on Lovable
-
Can anyone read your Supabase tables?
The most important setting in a Lovable app that uses Supabase. Without row level security policies, anyone with your public key, which is in every visitor's browser, can read the table.
-
Are secret API keys exposed in your front end?
Keys for services such as OpenAI or Stripe belong in a Supabase Edge Function or another server-side function, not in the React code.
-
Which services and settings does your app expose?
Shows which services your app calls from the browser and which environment variable names were built into it.
-
Are your security headers set?
Whether you can set response headers depends on where the app is hosted. Headers such as Content-Security-Policy limit the damage if something else goes wrong.
-
Is your site publishing its source maps?
Worth checking before launch, because a published source map gives away your whole front end.
Where settings go on Lovable
- Security headers
- If your host does not let you set response headers, you can add them by putting the site behind a CDN such as Cloudflare, or by hosting the built app on Netlify or Vercel, where headers are set in a config file (_headers or vercel.json).
- Secret keys
- If your project uses Supabase, you can store the key as a Supabase secret and call the service from a Supabase Edge Function, so the key never reaches the browser. Otherwise, keep it in a server-side function and read it from an environment variable.
Common questions
Is a Lovable app secure by default?
Lovable gives you a working starting point, but the security of your data depends on settings you control, above all your Supabase row level security policies. Check them before real users arrive.
Is my Supabase key in the Lovable code a leak?
Not if it is the anon or publishable key, which is designed to be public. A service role or secret key in the front end would be a serious leak.
Can I survey a site on lovable.app?
Yes. A free survey works on your your-app.lovable.app address or your own domain. Email checks are skipped on shared lovable.app addresses, because Lovable manages that domain.
